Deck Repair

Fix the Boards That Failed, Not the Whole Deck

Most deck calls come down to a handful of problems: a few boards gone soft, a railing that's worked loose, a stair tread flexing underfoot, or vinyl that's lifting at a seam. Those often call for targeted repairs, not rebuilds and they're exactly the size of job we're built for.

What We Repair

Common Deck Problems We Fix

These are the deck, railing, and vinyl repairs Metro Vancouver homeowners call us for most. Most are handled in a single visit.

Rotten & Soft Boards

Boards go soft where water sits: along the house edge, under planters, and at the ends. We cut out the failed boards, check the joists underneath, and replace the boards with material matched as closely as possible.

Vinyl Deck Repair

Vinyl decking fails at the seams, around posts, and where it meets the wall flashing. Left unaddressed, these defects can let water into the plywood below. We repair lifting seams and damaged sections to help protect the plywood underneath.

Loose & Wobbly Railings

A railing that moves when you lean on it is a safety issue, not a cosmetic one. Often, the problem is the post connection rather than the railing itself. We fix the cause and re-secure it properly.

Sagging & Flexing Stairs

Stair treads that bounce or stringers that have split need attention to keep the stairs safe. We replace the failed components and re-secure the stairs.

Rotten Fascia & Trim

The fascia board around the deck edge is exposed to the most weather and can deteriorate over time. We cut it out and replace it with suitable exterior-grade material.

Refinishing & Resealing

Stripping, sanding, and resealing a wood deck protects the boards and refreshes the look before another wet season.

Why Decks Fail Faster on the North Shore

Rain is a major factor here, especially where drainage is poor. Water sits on the surface, works into the board ends and the fastener holes, and settles in the gap where the deck meets the house. On a vinyl deck, the same water finds the seams. By the time a board feels soft underfoot, the moisture damage may already extend to the joists beneath it.

We check the structure under the surface on every deck call. Replacing boards over damaged joists leaves the underlying problem unresolved.

How Deck Repair Works with Microworks

We price the labour before we arrive, so you know what the visit costs when you book it not after.

1

Tell Us What's Wrong

Call and describe the deck: roughly how big it is, whether it's wood or vinyl, how many boards are affected, and whether the railing or stairs are involved. Photos help. Five minutes on the phone is usually enough.

2

We Match It to a Block

Your Service Advisor fits the work into a Half Day or Full Day Block and sets the date on the same call. The labour price is fixed at that point. No site visit needed.

3

One Technician, Fully Stocked

A Microworks technician arrives in a van carrying 100+ tools and works through the deck list in order.

4

Walk It, Then Settle Up

We walk you through the finished repair, clear the offcuts, and settle the balance on site. Materials are the only variable.

TESTIMONIALS

What Our Customers Say About Working With Us

Microworks knocked out a list of small repairs in one visit door that didn’t close, loose railing, and a few drywall patches. All the stuff we’d been ignoring for months. Super easy to deal with and very tidy.

Sarah L.

North Vancouver

We’d been putting off mounting the TV and installing blinds because we didn’t want to mess up the walls. They handled the TV, two bedroom blinds, and a grab bar in one appointment. Worth every dollar for the peace of mind.

Jason & Emily

West Vancouver

We had water damage on one wall and a couple of cracked tiles in the kitchen. Microworks repaired everything so cleanly that our painter asked who did the prep work. That says a lot.

Martin K.

Burnaby

I booked them for “just a bit of carpentry” some trim fixes and a loose step. The difference it made to how the house feels is huge. On time, respectful, and clear about what they could and couldn’t do.

Nadia S.

East Vancouver

I really liked that they didn’t try to turn my small requests into a big renovation. I got a straightforward estimate, they did exactly what we discussed, and everything was cleaned up before they left. I’ve already recommended them to two neighbours.

Repair or Rebuild? Here's How We Decide

Not every deck is worth repairing, and we'll tell you when yours isn't.

Usually worth repairing

A handful of soft boards in an otherwise solid deck

Railings that have worked loose at the posts

A vinyl seam or section letting water through

One or two stair treads or a split stringer

Rotten fascia or trim around the edge

Surface weathering that refinishing can improve

Usually worth rebuilding

Joists or beams are soft across the frame

The ledger connection to the house has failed

Widespread rot in the plywood under the vinyl

Posts or footings are moving or sinking

A deck that's been patched repeatedly

If your deck appears to need rebuilding, we'll explain the limits of what we can handle on the call before booking a Block.

FAQ

Deck Repair FAQs

CALL (604) 836-4178

Answered in under 10 seconds. No forms,  no chatbots.

Can you replace just a few deck boards?

Yes, that's most of what we do. We cut out the failed boards, check the joists underneath, and leave the rest of the deck alone.

Do you repair vinyl decks?

Yes. We repair lifting seams, damaged sections, and the problem areas where the vinyl meets the wall. Addressing these issues early helps protect the plywood underneath.

Do you need to come out and quote first?

No. We price the labour over the phone and book the date on the same call. Describe the damage, send a photo if you have one, and we'll match it to a Block.

Will the new boards match my existing deck?

We match the material and board profile as closely as availability allows. New cedar is often lighter than older boards and weathers over time. Refinishing can help blend the colour sooner.

Do you build new decks?

We handle repairs to boards, railings and stairs rather than full builds. If your deck needs rebuilding from the frame up, we'll tell you on the call.

My railing moves when I lean on it is that a repair?

Often, yes, and it's worth sorting quickly. The post connection may be the cause, but we’ll check the railing and its support to determine what needs repairing.

Got a Deck That Needs Sorting?

A few soft boards, a wobbly railing, a vinyl seam letting water in. One call to book, one technician, with labour priced before we arrive, and most repairs completed in one visit.
